Creamy Tropical Chocolate Protein Smoothie

Ingredients

  • Ice
  • Kale
  • Water
  • Oat Milk
  • Navel Orange
  • Frozen Pineapple
  • Ground Flaxseed
  • Chocolate Protein Powder

This smoothie may not be the prettiest, but it is quite tasty – trust me! It’s super versatile – totally appropriate for a breakfast or snack on-the-go, but works just as well to satisfy a late-night sweet tooth.

It’s also packed with a ton of nutrition, especially vitamin C thanks to the pineapple, orange, and kale. Vitamin C isn’t just important for our immune systems in terms of preventing illness, but it also works to fight all sorts of free radicals in our bodies that we’ll never know were there… until they’ve done their damage.

We can add fiber and omegas to the list of goodness here, but as always, please make this your own! Use what you have, and get those ratios in line with your tastes, not mine.

The full recipe:

  • Approx. 1/3c frozen pineapple
  • Couple ice cubes
    • I do this to keep it nice & cold, but it isn’t necessary
  • 1 navel orange
  • Generous handful of kale
    • Any greens work here – I love kale because it’s packed with Vitamins C & K, as well as protein (!!)
  • Approx. 1.5TBSP ground flaxseed
    • Whole flaxseeds work too since it’s getting blended; I just happen to have ground on hand
    • Option to use chia instead, but it will thicken the smoothie, so keep that in mind
  • 1 Serving chocolate protein powder
    • Option to add cacao (not cocoa) powder to deepen the chocolate flavor and increase antioxidant content
    • Can eliminate protein powder & use cacao instead, or use unflavored powder with cacao
    • If you don’t like chocolate, vanilla works really well here, too; just sub in vanilla powder instead!
  • Approx. 1c oat milk & 1/2c water
    • Use whatever ratio of oat milk & water work for your desired consistency – more oat milk for thicker/creamier
    • Skip the oat milk all together or use any dairy-free milk of choice!
